Approximately
one year ago today, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to Guatemala. I
enjoy traveling to different countries because I love learning about different
cultures and exploring different places and i'm also fascinated with historical
sites from the ancient times.
Guatemala
is most definitely a beautiful country with many gorgeous places to see and
visit. The culture of Guatemala reflects
strong Mayan and Spanish influences and continues to be defined as a contrast
between poor Mayan villagers in the rural highlands, and the urbanized and
relatively wealthy mestizos population (known in Guatemala as ladinos) who
occupy the cities and surrounding agricultural plains.
During
my 12 day stay, I visited 16 different cities which I never imagined I would
have the chance to see. The most memorable part of my trip was horseback riding
to see a Volcano called Pacaya. It was my first time seeing a Volcano therefore
the experience was amazing!
Pacaya
is an active complex volcano in Guatemala, which first erupted approximately
23,000 years ago and has erupted at least 23 times since the Spanish invasion
of Guatemala. Pacaya rises to an elevation of 2,552 metres.
I
also had the opportunity to do a photoshoot in Lake Atitlán with a beautiful dress
design by Fashion Designer Maritza Guevara Sanchez from Peru and her Sipan
Collection.
Lake Atitlán is a body of water in a massive volcanic crater in
Guatemala’s southwestern highlands. Ringed by steep, verdant hills, it’s known
for its Mayan villages and volcanoes with striking pointed cones. The busy town
of Panajachel, where vendors sell traditional textiles, is a popular gateway to
the lake.
